January 2021 is all about building a healthy mindset and I couldn't think of a better guest to have on the show, for a second time, to talk about how to build a healthy mindset than Jesse Boldt. Jesse is a professional MMA fighter, Bang Muay Thai instructor, vanlifer, and an online morning routine coach. Jesse is a personal friend of mine and one of the most inspirational people I know. In this episode Jesse talks about the toxic mindsets so many of us have and what we can do to develop a more resilient mind. I know that no matter what you are going through, you will get so much out of this episode.
Going into 2021, I'm sure you have goals and resolutions you'd like to achieve. While setting goals is great to do, we need to make sure that we set the most important goal first, so that we can actually achieve the other goals we have. In this episode, I talk about the number one goal you need to make to truly find success in all other areas!
So many of us are operating out of a fixed mindset-where we believe our abilities and qualities are unchangeable. We operate in this thinking without even noticing how detrimental it can be to our performance and motivation. In this podcast, I discuss what a fixed mindset is versus a growth mindset, and why praising people (especially children) for their ability hinders their performance and sets them up for failure down the road. I draw on concepts from Carol Dweck's book Mindset: The New Psychology of Success. I hope you enjoy this episode and that it gives you some serious food for thought!
No matter how hard you try, you will always fail when it comes to certain goals. While we need to go into our goal setting with an optimistic attitude, we also have to be realistic about the obstacles we will potentially face, and what we are going to do when we fail to reach our goal. In this episode, I discuss some of the ways we sabotage our goals and some of the factors that make it more likely for us to fail. Most importantly, I share what you can do about it so you are better equipped when you get back on the horse, or move towards another goal!
In Today's episode, I have Amanda Bergen on to talk about overcoming adversity. Amanda works with Toronto's homeless community, and through overcoming many of her own challenges, she has so much insight and encouragement for how others can overcome adversity when all odds seem stacked against them. We also talk about some of the factors that drive homelessness, what kind of programs are out there, and some possible solutions for what we can do as a society to help those in need.
What are the things that motivate us?
How do we stay motivated?
What do we do to increase motivation?
What can we do when we lack motivation?
These are questions psychologists have asked for many years. Today we discuss some of the answers to these questions about motivation and how you can set goals that will lead to success depending on the type of goal it is.
In this episode, I discuss the link between Instagram use and body image issues, as well as disordered eating behaviours. I go over published journals looking at these topics, and give you some tips on what you can do to protect your emotional well-being when it comes to social media use.

She also explains what PCOS is and different strategies to manage it, as well as ditching food rules so you can live your best life!

It's no surprise that we're all experiencing extreme amounts of stress at a time like this. Human beings don't like uncertainty, in fact, we do everything we can to reduce uncertainty as much as we can through various strategies. But what happens when we don't have the strategies we need to succeed at reducing uncertainty? We turn to coping mechanisms. In this episode, I discuss why uncertainty causes so much stress and different ways we try to reduce it. I also talk about using exercise and nutrition as a coping mechanism, and put an emphasis on body neutrality over body positivity.
We live in such a strange time right now with coronavirus drastically changing the way our lives are organized. It can be easy to lose hope or become negative, but no matter what, there are positive things that can and will come out of this. Joining me to talk about navigating through trials, finding purpose, and learning to live with simplicity is guest speak and dear friend Jesse Boldt who is a full-time van lifer, Muay Thai Coach, and dog dad.
Not everyone is motivated to exercise, and then some people are highly motivated and over exercise. In either case, it's about the quality of movement we engage in, not the amount. In this episode, I discuss strategies for either building exercise into your life, or scaling back when you're over doing it. I also discuss intuitive exercise and why it's a method that works for some people but not for others. Thanks so much for listening!
We strive for a lot of things in life; money, performance, a better body, good grades, but we aren't striving for one of the most important aspects of health. If we want to be healthy mentally, and have a good relationship with our body, we need to strive for peace within ourselves, not external aspects. This is a "catch up" episode where I go over where I'm at in my HA recovery and why striving to make peace with your body should be your top priority.
In a society where we are more connected than we've ever been before, we are facing both the benefits and consequences that come from our use of social media. While there are so many positives to be connected, we also face challenges with our ability to see life for what it truly is, our attention and self-awareness is being affected, and we seem to be losing touch with what's going on around us. Joining me is Dr. James Cresswell to talk about the impact that social media has on our mental health and what we can do to navigate our way through this digital world.
With working in the fitness industry for nearly a decade, I have been asked countless questions on how to address things like cellulite, thigh gaps, and how to get a six pack. As a woman who is focused first and foremost on being healthy, truly healthy, it’s important to address these topics and bust some myths when it comes to our bodies. If you have concerns about your body and want to change it because you think it will make you happier, then listen to this episode!
